Chambers Note

The best of Italian gastronomy and culture brings Italy to Town

The Consulate of Italy in Cape Town is proud to present the first edition of the Italy in Town festival, which will be held on 23rd and 24th November 2024, among the streets of the iconic De Waterkant neighbourhood, in partnership with the City of Cape Town. This festival is aimed at bringing an authentic Italian experience to the broad Cape Town public.

Two days of music, culture, cooking labs and wine tastings, with attractions for the whole family will be offered to ticket holders. In addition to the numerous market stands offering artisanal and authentic gastronomic products, visitors will be entertained by music performances and widespread activities.

Among the scheduled events there is the performance by travelling Italian singer and songwriter, Roberta Di Lorenzo. Meanwhile thanks to the collaboration with the city of Città di Castello, the “TazzinArt” project will be presented, offering the possibility to admire and buy ceramic creations decorated by Italian artists as well as by young art students from the township of Langa. The youngest visitors will enjoy a play area for children, with dedicated activities.

Italy in Town is a festival strongly supported by the Consulate of Italy with the goal of promoting Italian culture and traditions as well as strengthen relations between Italy and Cape Town. This vision has been achieved in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute in Pretoria, the Comites - Committee for Italians abroad, and the Italian-South African Chamber of Commerce. Enormous gratitude is owed to the Italian and South African sponsors, including Campari, RDC Property Group, Rialto, Woolworths, and SMEG.

The festival will be held over two days (Saturday, November 23 from 10h00 to 22h00, and Sunday, November 24, from 10h00 to 18h00), and it will be officially inaugurated by the presence of the Ambassador of Italy Alberto Vecchi and of local authorities, on Saturday 23, at 17h00.
